LV vs BURBERRY.

i'm not really looking to buy a new bag, but i've been stalking a few..and saving pennies (literally) for one near my bday though ;)

in the meantime, i'm taking my time looking for that perfect one to purchase. i've been lOving this burberry bag pictured below for the longest time. i can see it being well used during summer, fall, winter and spring.

but i've also been lOving louis vuitton's newest monogram canvas tote/shoulder bag: the stresa. i love the larger version, but not the price...who does?!

i've noticed since it's hit LV boutiques all around - it's the most common bag i've seen in just the last few weeks. every starbucks or target trip i make it seems like i see one of these LV stresa's being toted around. so that's something to consider. other than that, i don't like the strap you have to unbuckle just to get to zippered part...before you can actually get into the bag. that's not very functional is it. so why'd they design it that way? for the look of it? well it does look nice with that extra wide vachette strip, but still. don't think it's very functional.

thank goodness there is such a thing as premium outlet shopping centers. it doesn't make sense to buy adorably cute baby clothes anywhere else (except target and/or walmart of course). babies grow too quickly, by the time you buy one size of shoes, dress or pj's - they're ready to fit into the next size up 2-3 weeks later.

but why in the world am i even talking about baby clothes (no, family, i'm not prego!!) - think my biological clock is ticking though. i'm finding myself paying more and more attention to babies wherever i go: grocery store, pharmacy, everywhere! and everytime, i'm saying inside, "i want one!" ;)

then i start to daydream. oh no, why is that baby barefooted? it's so cold! didn't the mother have time to put on little booties? oh gosh, look at that hair! or, oh my, that outfit looks one size too small - or - yeah, get the picture? i just want one of my very own to...have. one day. soon? ;) kidding. sort of.

anyway, really, this whole thing started when i was obsessing over a certain bag, or bags by burberry and some by kate spade (i know, i thought i kicked the kate spade bag love a while back but she keeps drawing me in with her new designs!!)

and somehow i saw this tote: the burberry haymarket tote bag. i thought it was a cute tote, but started to compare it to one i really wanted: the bridle housecheck shoulder bag. it's so gorgeous! anyway, i thought compared to the bridle housecheck shoulder bag, the haymarket tote bag was cute, but more to use as a baby bag. that's when i started getting these ideas. i started to roam into the burberry children's wear part of website - and how CUTE are the clothes!! i wouldn't buy it full price/retail - i'd wait to buy these clothes at the burberry outlet - if, well when, i have a little baby to spoil!! :D

kidding. i dunno, but looks to me like this sketch has miffy at new york fashion week written all over it.

remember miffy? the orginal? created in 1955 as nijntje (originally in dutch).

well i wasn't born yet for the org. piece but yeah.

hard to imagine the simple bunny with the simple dress becoming a fashionista - but what a fun spin off for a story.

(one of) my hero(es): dick bruna, author & illustrator of miffy. it all started with a sketch of a white bunny who had no gender in the beginning - then he decided to make the bunny a girl. his toddler inspired DB to write and illustrate the 200+ miffy books. yay for all of us!

so usually i fall for cutesy stationary hello kitty & co type things. last year i came across a hello kitty cactus girl wallet pouch thing at sanrio (hello kitty store) and found it was designed by tokidoki for hello kitty, much like how rebecca minkoff did a limited edition hello kitty handbag and wallet set, but anyway, didn't think much beyond that.

for those that don't know about tokidoki, it's another handbag/accessory line. designer is simone legno. a youngish italian designer who has a deep love for japanese culture (according to wiki).

usually i'd associate tokidoki designs/characters with skulls, fangs, scary but colorful characters (see first image below). so i wasn't all that interested in having some asian painting of a girl character on a bag i'd be carrying around with me. also, the skulls and such somewhat frightened me a bit, and the little plants with fangs. not even my little sister cared for it much!!

but then tokidoki came out with something that called out to me! the 'pegaso' line :) when i had to walk through macy's to get to the inner part of mall - i stopped dead in my tracks and gasped: i saw tiny unicorns/clouds/etc. i thought happy thoughts which took me back to when i was... NINE! i thought not of tokidoki's new design patterns, but of unicorns (i think of she-ra's pegasus); the last unicorn (book & movie); and who could forget about rainbow brite's starlite, the flying horse!!

so basically, this post is about my first ever tokidoki messenger bag i just bought. you'll see it below. just scroll :) *happy thoughts* ;)

this is why i never bought a tokidoki bag before. not that i'm knockin' it - i just didn't care for design..

though some of the characters are cute, the fangy plants and skulls kinda' freak me out on a handbag. stationary, ok, but not on handbags (for me anyway).

gaaaaasp: cute clouds with big smiley face, pegasus/unicorns/flying horse type things...and no scary plants with thorns and fangs? and no asian girl throughout design of bag? this bag's for me! ;)

so this was their lv "speedy" type bag. i did consider this, but it was too tiny. cute - but tiny. so this one was a no-go.

so i got the messenger bag style below but not in the cute astronaut design pictured, i got it in the "pegaso" design (image above)...

and i lOve it. course i was shocked because i thought the bag would be less than $50!! i thought le sportsac type bags were inexpensive..
guess not tokidoki's? :(

My most wise purchase for this winter is this peacoat from New York and Company. It's soft, warm, comfortable. I love most the colors. Regularly $109.95, it's on sale online for $76.96.
Also currently there is a special online promotion using Online Promo Code 3899, taking an additional 30% off. I purchased the "National Green" Peacoat pictured below in store, and with an online printable coupon, the regularly priced $109.95 coat was reduced to $44.00!! Fourty-four!! I LOVE this coat. It's the only reason why I can't wait for it to storm here :) To be able to use it, of course ;p lOve the hood!!

magic mascara? don't we all wish...

recently i've been on yet another annual hunt for "the" perfect mascara. i don't know why i still go through this dilemma when i thought i said to myself i found "the" perfect one last year (chanel inimitable).

i was suckered into all the new flashy mascara ads from lancome to loreal and bought one, then two, then three different types.

here's what i bought, thought of, kept and threw out.

l'oreal paris telescopic mascara.
i decided i needed to be on an ultra strict budget since my recent car purchase drained me, and i mean draaaaaiiiiined me.
but was i really saving a lot by listening to my inner thoughts which told me that mascara is mascara whether you buy it at walmart or nordstrom?
i thought i was wise in spending only $8.00 on this thing (regular price was $11.00 BUT i had a $3.00 off target coupon yay!)
well the coupon didn't matter.
first, let me say that my lashes are pretty dull on it's own. i so envy brooke shields for her long, voluminous and lengthy lashes! anyway, i put this l'oreal telescopic mascara in carbon black - and no miracle there. it felt ultra stiff applying it, it dried too quickly to be able to even apply a 2nd app, which i really needed! it definitely defined my lashes by separating them giving me the porcupine eyelash look - but did it give me lustrous volume like it claims? was it smudgeproof like it claims? nope.
i had raccoon eyes after 5 hours. so, this sucker got tossed out fast. what a waste of money!!
(dollars wasted $8.00)

givenchy's eye fly lash extender mascara.
when you think of "givenchy" [juh-vahn-shee], don't you think of audrey hepburn and glamour and breakfast at tiffany's? well, i do. just like how i associate gucci with jackie O.
anyway, don't believe givenchy (or sephora's people): "Eye Fly's secret weapon to perfectly even lashes is the patented helix brush that has short bristles to coat the lashes from root to tip and long bristles to separate, lengthen, and curl. This innovative formula combines three unique complexes: ExtraFly Complex to create an "airy sensation" that lifts each lash to wing-like perfection, Xtender Complex for maximum lengthening and separation, and ColorFly, an infusion of mother of pearl particles specially treated for lashes that shimmer with lovely highlights."
that's a bunch of bologne.
well it was for me anyway. it smudges, the pretty and clear container cracked within a week, and it wasn't dropped or smashed - it just cracked. it separated but lengthened as long as l'oreals telescopic mascara thing.

well this claimed to non-clump. and well, it lied. it clumps.
(dollars wasted $20)

chanel inimitable mascara.
so, i'm back to square one. i should have stuck with what i knew and shouldn't have thought grass would be greener on the other side and blah dee blah blah.

chanel's inimitable is worth the $30. had i stuck w/this, i could have saved myself let's see, 8 (l'oreal at target) + 24 (givenchy) + 20 (laura mercier). oh. my. gawsh. i just realized i spent an additional $52 just to figure out that the $30 pricetag on chanel's mascara is well worth every droplet of that beautiful, gorgeous, noir color. it lenghtens, volumizes, does not clump, and makes me feel like my eyes actually have natural long, thick and strong lashes. like a magic wand and fairy dust worked wonders with just 2 strokes.

one minute ordinary eyes; next minute, seductive - or sassy - or just more dramatic. i can't explain other than the fact that i just feel like my eyes stand out more, like one of those Nightmare Before Christmas characters.
(dollars worth it $30)

so why oh why do i feel the need to try Yvez Saint Laurent's Mascara Singulier. It's claiming to dramatically separate, curl and volumize lashes. Where've I heard that before? Ugh, it's $30. Ugh, it looks like it could work. That's the key word isn't it? that it could work, not that it necessarily will. i should pay attention to the name of YSL's new mascara too: "Singulier", catch the last four letters: "____LIER". it's a sign. it should be a no-go!

i need to be flashy thingy-d!!! help? ;)

anthropologie OBSESSED.

ladies & gents, i've been recently obsessed with frequenting anthropologie (sale section mainly) after a visit to paper-source. usually while going into anthropologie, i put on side blinders and speed walk my way down to the way end of the store (sale section), but once in a blue moon - like in the last few days - i've been having to stop dead in my tracks for something that would just fly out at my face. for example, this scarf pictured above. i LOVED it, knew i HAD to have it, but of course was afraid to look at the price tag. figured it'd be about $98.00, but was i completely SHOCKED. it was not $98, it was $38, and sooo soft and pretty and butterfly-fluffy. i had to have it. so i bought it, washed it, flat dried it and wore it. it's LOVE. i love it. and surprisingly enough, i've gotten many compliments on it over the weekend. LOVE it.

COACH Leah in CeCe Fabric! Eeek!!

COACH, Kate Spade & Rebecca Minkoff. It's a push n' pull love/hate relationship. For the last ten years I've probably fell in and out of love with these brands about a hundred times ;P These brands always seem to come up with something better every other year. I thought I was OVER Kate Spade a couple years ago, but there she goes with her ready to wear fall 2009 collection. Now COACH with their new line of wallets (I'm in love with the yellow slim envelope wallet too). RM has all these SLG goodies and I still cannot get the Deep Red Beau out of my head, which is still on sale at Muse Ten in SF!

Although the color looks neon bright, it's the perfect color for spring and summer - or even fall. It's a great shade, and is fun and comfortable to wear all around town. Love that the Coach Leah in CeCe Canvas pictured above is spacious; functional; with plenty of pockets for organization inside and out; can hold plenty without appearing overly stuffed. It has a detachable strap which can be worn comfortable over the shoulders, or cross body and can also be adjusted. Additional tote handles with natural vachette piping and handles add a nice contrast to this tote.

A good, generous, kind, loving, sweet and fellow handbag fanatic friend of mine I've known for years, gave me the most awesome gift EVER! I still canNOT believe she gave me this!*&^%$#! for my early bday gift!!!! She spoils me so. She also is the one who treated me to my spa day (early bday gift) last Saturday, and I'm so greatful to her ;)

In my previous post, I rambled on about my new lOve for Treesje's London Grande in crinkled black patent, except at the time, I had only found images of Lipstick (pictured below). I lOve the gunmetal studs on the Lipstick hue, but I love the crinkled black patent soo much, that the gold studs don't really phase me.

So this evening, I found images on a handbag site featuring the color I did buy!! London Grande in Crinkled Black Patent :D

^ Back of London Grande has a zipper in back which fits my cell phone, antibac, pens & my keys.

^ Front side with studs (eventually grew on me), has one inside zipper which holds a small notebook, small lotion, pens... small essentials.

^ There are 3 Main compartments which are spacious and functional. The outer 2 zippered compartments also has additional patch pockets for cell phone & pda, and also has 2 inside zip compartments for odds & ends.

^ Interesting fact: Inside lining is made of Bengaline Silk & was fashionable for women & children's clothing in the late 19th century. I love the contrasting color of lining against black exterior.

Bengaline silk is a woven material which became fashionable for women and children to wear in the 1880s and 1890s. It offered the impression of genuine silk but was actually made with lesser amounts of silk than cotton. Lizzie Borden stated at her December 1892 inquest that she was wearing a dress made of bengaline silk on the morning she was accused of murdering her father and stepmother.
The fabric tended to go out of fashion when completely smooth-surfaced materials became popular. Pique, coachman's whipcord, diagonal serge, and surah are similar to bengaline silk. Surah was once know in France as silk serge.
Bengaline silk sold for $2.50 per yard in 1889 but was sometimes discounted to sell for $1.25 per yard. A heavy lined, long cloak for infants, with deep bengaline silk embroidery, retailed for $7.98 at a Manhattan, New York clothing shop, in 1893. Splendour In The Bags..

So I guess the title of this post is in memory of Natalie Wood's birthday week, and my favorite movie of all time, Splendour In The Grass ;)

Anyway, I've been sucked back into the world of handbags, wanting - I mean - needing a new one for.. functionality :) I let go of the thought of owning the much desired (by me) GUCCI Interlocking Medium Boston Bag because it's not as functional as I need it to be. It's a satchel that you can only carry by hand or at the crook of your arm, and the biggest reason of all? The hefty price tag. I'd feel bad after the fact that it's only been almost a year since I purchased my beloved LV Multicolor Speedy 30.

Moving on. So recently, I've learned a lot about Mulberry, more specifically the Bayswater in Crimson Spazzalato. Spazzalato leather is similar to patent leather, except it's not coated with a glossy finish, it's more of a matte patent type leather. Crimson is absolutely gorgeous in person, extremely light weight and when I came across the Crimson Bayswater at my local department store not too long ago, on sale but all beat up, I was determined to find one online for the same sale price, but not beat up.. and also to learn more about the type of leather in general.

As much as I'd wanted to add Crimson Spazz to my collection, I decided against it mainly because of reviews I'd read on it being very much high maintenance. I want a bag I can use day in, day out, and not just once in a while. Especially at the price it's going for. Who wants to spend over XXX amount on a handbag and not be able to use it? Not me.

This is the gorgeous (to me) Spazzalato Crimson Bayswater by Mulberry. :( Almost purchased. :*(

Now on to the bag I recently brought home, at 60% off retail, and half the price of Mulberry's Bayswater Crimson Spazz, I'm SO excited about this one! It's the London Grande (pictured here in the color Lipstick).

I purchased Black Crinkled Patent (pictures of my London Grande Black Patent will be posted soon), and it's lOve, lOve, lOve.

It's by Treesje and is everything I've been searching for (except the gold clutter of studs): crinkled patent leather; contrasting lining (I hate black exterior and black interior-I'm clausterphobic like that); 6 different zippered pockets/separate compartments makes it very functional and still lightweight; can be carried by hand or over the shoulder; extremely lightweight, OH and did I mention that it's super lightweight?

The only thing different I'd like to have changed on my Black Patent is the color of the studs. Pictured above, Lipstick London Grande looks like the studs are Gunmetal right? Well on Black Patent it's..Gold. It's kind of a drawback, but at 60% off and perfect to me everything else, it was well worth the splurge :) I'm happy. You're happy. Or not. But still, everybody around me will be happy ;p

NEWS FLASH: retail therapy WORKS!

So, a friend and I had unexpectedly ended up at Nordstrom today. We were supposed to put blinders on and just walk through Nordie's and go straight to parking lot after taking advantage of the great deals at Old Navy and Bath and Body Works Semi-Annual sale, which ends Sunday. We were too weak. I think subconsciously we parked at Nordstrom for a reason. After deciding we would hit Starbucks and go home, we ended up at Nordstrom...for two hours~!

But look at what I scored today!!!

And to justify my purchases (in my head of course).. I must remind myself I deserve it because I've decided NOT to get the GUCCI bag or any other bag; to just be happy with the bags I have and put them to good use ('til Xmas or my Bday month) ...and since I just SOLD a Louis Vuitton item of mine...I have extra spending ca$h :D

Today was a good day. I felt really comfortable today in this affordable outfit below. Comfortable because of how affordable it was and because of how it felt on me. Thanks to Old Navy & Steve Madden :D

I purchased a brown and navy colored shirtdress (perfect for summer weekends and work week too), and I scored a pair of Steve Madden wedges in a color that goes well with BOTH my navy and brown shirtdresses from Old Navy. I can barely contain my excitement over these finds!

I'd never really been an Old Navy fan 'til this last year alone, where I quickly realized that if I wanted to afford my handbags and small leather goods *needs*, I'd have to compensate somewhere - so I did! Goodbye Nordstrom, Hello Nordstrom Rack! Goodbye Saks Fifth, Hello Off 5th (Saks Outlet to those that don't know..), Goodbye regularly priced Anthropologie, Hello back clearance section inside Anthropologie...and sales on Anthropologie dot com. Ever since my Coach Patent Leather Shoulder Tote Bag days and my bad experience with color transfer from denim to white patent, I've sort of been traumatized by patent leather in general...and more specifically with Coach since it was my last Coach bag I had carried from that brand: The Limited Edition White Patent Leather Coach Shoulder Tote.

And then came Treesje. I've been sorta "lurking" around Treesje: learning & absorbing info like a sponge, and yes, when my bag fund increases, I'd love to add this to my collection. It's practical, functional, perfect sized clutch. Plus, all the reviews have been pretty good so far :D I see it with a dress w/splashes of navy stripes or blobs...or dark wash jeans with a cute lil' peasant top and high heeled wedges.

My hidden love affair with this bag.

Once upon a time, five years ago, I'd stumbled upon a hobo bag in an Indie Boutique called VERONICA M. in Laguna Beach, CA. It was a mustard sort of shade, with stud hardware for character, and the leather was sooo soft and smooshy, and the interior lining was paisley grograin or something. It was my ultimate GO TO bag. I loved it, used it, and admired it daily for one year. Then I moved, then it got lost! I was devastated and tried in vain to find a replacement to no avail.

3 years after losing my beloved hobo bag from VERONICA M. (which they confirmed w/me they no longer carried, sob-sob), I was introduced to Rebecca Minkoff via tPF!

I quickly forgot about my beloved hobo bag because I fell in love with a different satchel style type of bag: Morning After Bag by Rebecca Minkoff. I quickly became the proud owner of a MAB followed by a BBW MAM, which I'm proud to say I still have in my posession.

Now that I have my entire satchel collection completed (including my LV Speedy's!), I WANT this Wine Nikki by Rebecca Minkoff, which looks so much like my old hobo that was lost or kidnapped! The only difference is the color...and the brand of course.

So my plan of action? Well, I've already sold my LV SLG, so that will go to bag fund.
Current Dilemma? Now I LOVE Teal Nikki!!

In 1867, the company participated in the universal exhibition in Paris. To protect against the duplication of his look, he [Louis Vuitton] changed the Trianon design to a beige and brown stripes design in 1876. By 1885, the company opened its first store in London, England on Oxford Street. Soon thereafter, due to the continuing imitation of his look, in 1888, the Damier Canvas pattern was created by Louis Vuitton, bearing a logo that reads "marque L. I couldn't wear it. Instead at the time, I purchased the classic Mono Canvas Speedy 30, which was about $1,000 LESS. And much more classic.

Okay, so, can I just say for those women obsessed with Louis Vuitton & the color pink - this would be THE perfect LV Speedy to have?!

This version of the Classic Louis Vuitton Speedy is the Luxe version of Speedy in Ostrich by Richard Prince, and at the time of launch (2008?) was available for purchase at $12,900 USD. Anyway, just wanted to share image below of how fabulous this Speedy looks. I'm a pink girl; I'm a speedy girl. This bag would suit me. Although I'm not loving the gold "Speedy" emblem. So, I just found out the St. Moritz edition of this Neverfull GM pictured below is available with only 200-500 limited pieces at the St. Moritz Louis Vuitton Boutique in Switzerland, just as there were only 500 limited edition pieces of the St. Tropez Neverfull GM piece at the St. Tropez LV Boutique in France. Wow. Wow. Wow. I'm excited, but can't get my hopes up. I'd love to have this Baby Blue St. Moritz piece in my collection, but not only am I NOT going to Switzerland anytime soon, I'm sure there are locals in St. Moritz on the binder thick waitlist, right?

With so many Neverfull lines to choose from, and 3 different sizes, it's easy to find which style best suits your lifestyle. Personally, I've fallen in love with the most ginormous size of them all, Neverfull GM (Grande Modele size) in Damier Ebene, pictured directly below (middle tote). It's LOve!

LE Moca Monogram Takashi Murakami Neverfull was only available for purchase at the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Los Angeles, CA and was priced in 2008 at $950 USD. These bags are hard to find in excellent to mint condition. I just lOve the pink lining!
Finally below, this extremely rare Crocodile Neverfull is available for $32,000 (USD), but that was last year! I think the price increase has gone up to $38,000 (USD) - not completely sure now- but it's what I've heard. Why so pricey? Why, it's exotic crocodile leather of course. I'd rather save the $37,250 I don't have in my bag fund and buy the $750 Neverfull GM in Damier Ebene instead ;P Anyway, there are only 3 or 4 of these rare and exotic Neverfull Crocodile GM Totes worldwide (or so I've read somewhere). Wonder who has one? Beyonce or Jessica Simpson perhaps? ;)

Personally, I couldn't spend that much on a bag even if I had 1 million to burn! That's college tuition for a relative of mine or something!?#*%!
